VOTE OF THANKS PROPOSED BY MAHARANDAN

Shri Ibrahim Waheed, Eminent  Writer is a multifaceted personality, well-known Writer of Maldives, Translator, Poet, Singer, Musician and a Government officer all rolled in to one;

Prof. Manoj Das, a Fellow of the Sahitya Akademi with more than 60 books in English and the same number in Oriya  has honoured un with his presence, who has just left for obvious reasons ;

In the same way, Prof. Raja is also a myriad personality, Writer, Translator, Columnist and above all a General Council Member of Sahitya Akademi and my respected professor;

Shri J. Ponnudurai, Officer-in-charge of Southern Zone Sahitya Akademi who is also my dear friend,

Members of Literary Circle, Friends and to all present here, I express my bounden duty and happiness on this happy occasion. If fact, it is a remarkable and pleasant moment that we have all gathered here.

It is indeed a rare opportunity to share the experience of a multifaceted literary spearhead in tasting the subtle nuances of literary greatness.  It is a day to ask ourselves to what level we stand in the world of literature.

It is universally an acknowledged fact that any great literary work or art should make our sprit and soul clean and sublime.  We, in fact feel the aroma of experience in meeting such literary stalwarts as the one in our midst.

It is unfortunate that now-a-days there is a great hiatus between the literary personality and his writings.  We are not able to identify the man behind it and we are simply beguiled.  Now, a time has come to have changed atmosphere an account of our respected Writer who is cent percent akin to his writings.   Therefore, his literary output has stood the test of time.  There are a few, who have achieved such heights and our respected writers are amongst them.  In fact, they go on a par with our great “Poet Bharathi”.

Shri Ibrahim Waheed of Maldives is one of the best creators of Story telling whose literary works wield around the living context of the people of Maldives for instance 1. A Day on the Beach, 2. Office, Sweet Office, 3. Jack in the Box, 4. Night Flight, 5. Silent Night and 6. Devi.

I am well aware that it is a very difficult task to be a writer while being also a Government Officer, finding time in writing.

We are really fortunate in having Shri Ibrahim Waheed in our midst for having come all the way from Maldives in sharing his literary experience. On behalf of Sahitya Akademi and the Writers of Puducherry for which I am grateful in every sense, I express my gratitude to him.

The Soil of Puducherry is enriched with literary spirits and its greatness is harbinger and inexplicable.  We consider “Poet Bharathi” as the fountain-head  of  Modern Poetry in Tamil.  His Free verse-style is set to be a presage to Modern poems which he had penned while Puducherry during 1930s.  Hence, we may presume that the origin of Modern Poetry in Tamil literature started in Puducherry.

A renowned literary writer Mr. Prabhanjan is of the view that the first Tamil Novel was written in Puducherry.  Like-wise, Dalit Literature as well as Women’s writing also had their origin from Puducherry through Nirappirigai (Prism).  Vallinam has also projected Subaltern Studies from Puducherry. Apart from all the above, Prof. Raja is a boon for the Soil of Puducherry, which has produced another literary personality who has excelled in the spheres of life to the literary world. He has been doing translation of Puducherry Literature to the outside world in a  silent way.

Moreover, he joins with me in echoing his voice for the writers of Puducehry in the corridors of Sahitya Akademi.  I am, therefore, profoundly happy for his contribution of his efforts in organizing this grand literary function and I express my sincere thanks to him also.

I extend my gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the organizing members of Sahitya Akademi with special thanks to Shri J. Ponnudurai who have come all the way from Bangalore to grace the occasion.

Once again, I place before you all my sincere gratitude to all my friends in the literary circles who have spared enough time to participate in this great function.

Thank you one and all.
